Interior cabinet secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has ordered security inspection of Kom mining area in Isiolo to establish the security status and report to be made to his office on Monday to determine whether the site will be closed or not.
Speaking at Alamach, in Burat, Isiolo North during the pass out of 138 national police reservists, Kindiki said that the place is harbouring some criminals from outside the country and it will not be business as usual from then.
Kindiki, earlier in the day, ordered the closure of Dabel Artisinal Mining Sites in Marsabit, gazetted them as dangerous and disturbed, following clashes between rival gangs of miners, leading to 7 deaths.
On the issue of banditry and cattle rustling, Kindiki told the NPR to use the training and the weapons they received to neutralize criminals before they get them.
He reiterated the government’s commitment in fighting banditry and cattle rustling that has been a menace in the area for decades.
“The issue of banditry and cattle rustling has disturbed us for years and as the government, we will bring this to an end,” Kindiki said.
The CS gifted ksh 1 Million to the NPR and the ksh 300,000 to the trainers.
The officers will complement the effort of the police and other mult agency teams working to combat crime in the county.
