Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi has confirmed that he is well after he was attacked by rowdy youths at Kanuni Igembe South on Friday.

Addressing the press at his home in Riaki on Saturday, the young legislator said that his woes are simply because he had attended a prayer meeting at deputy president Dr. William Ruto’s home with some clergymen from his constituency.

He blamed the agriculture cabinet secretary Peter Munya for what he termed as turning development meeting into a political rally owing to the fact that he was in his constituency.

The legislator also lashed out to the minister for saying that Miraa market issues could not be tackled by talking in vernacular radio stations.

“Media is the mirror of our society and they should not be treated with contempt however small a media house might be,” Mwirigi said.

Mwirigi noted that when he arrived in the meeting on Friday at Kanuni, he greeted the minister but he did not respond.

He want leaders to respect each other if development will be realized in Meru County.

Mwirigi was attacked by young people who had arrived at the meeting with minister Munya and Environmentalist Mithika Mzalendo, who is also vying for the constituency MP seat.

The meeting was planned by Mzalendo to give farmers Sunflower seeds that was terminated prematurely after chaos ensued.

Later youths held the MP forcing police to shoot the air to disperse the crowd to give way for the legislator.

Munya and Mwirigi have been friends. During Mwirigi’s graduation ceremony, Munya had advised Mwirigi to get married and Munya promised to take ncolo (a butch of miraa used to book a lady for marriage in Meru culture) to Mwirigi’s in-laws.

It seems Tangatanga and Kieleweke politics might have changed the relationship between the two.

CS Munya and the deputy President have been political enemies since Munya was the Meru Governor.

Their differences were made public at Nkubu when Munya walked out of the meeting in the presence of the deputy president.
