Fruits sellers in Kasarani Market in Isiolo town are grappling with dirty sewage water that is running from Soko Mjinga through the fruit market.
Their fruits are falling into the dirty water, leaving them counting losses.
Caroline Kairuthi, a fruit seller in the market, recounted how she has been losing her fruits into the sewage.
“Customers are wondering what is happening with the market because it is very smelly,” Kairuthi said.
“How can we be disrupted by Covid-19 and at the same time sewage being directed through the foodstuffs market,” Kairuthi wondered.
Maxuel Amboso, alias Muthamaki, is counting losses for he has sold very little since morning because customers are avoiding him because the sewage is running through next to his commodities.
“Where is municipality management when we are suffering like this,” Muthamaki wondered.
“If they will not come to save us here both Covid-19 and poverty will kill us,” concluded.
They want the county government to look for permanent solution for the perpetual problem.
